Operational evidence and portfolio work

Judge the work by the decision it makes possible.

The strongest examples are not the systems with the most features. They are the ones that make authority, evidence and required action clear. Prior-delivery records and Strataflow portfolio work are separated so you can see exactly what each proves.

Selected working-system evidence

Three systems. Three management decisions.

These records lead because each resolves a different failure of management information: permission to proceed, confidence in the reported position and visibility of future material exposure.

01Utility delivery control

Permit ControlPrivate working-system evidence

A plan is not ready because the calendar says so.

Management questionCan this job proceed?
01 / The condition
Planned work and current permit evidence lived in different systems. Neither source could answer the delivery question alone.
02 / The control
The system keeps each source authoritative, then applies explicit readiness rules for permit linkage, granted status, date coverage and freshness.
03 / Management consequence
Managers can distinguish work that is ready from work that needs correction before committing the programme.
What the retained evidence shows
  • The readiness conclusion is shown beside the evidence that produced it.
  • Exceptions are ordered by the date on which management must act.
  • Stale or incomplete evidence cannot produce a reassuring answer.
An anonymised permit readiness record showing a decision, operational notice and authoritative evidence fields.
Supporting capture / privacy-safe derivativeAnonymised supporting capture. Job, person, date, permit and source-record values have been permanently removed.

Basis: Privately retained working-system captures and implementation record.

Limit: The organisation and live records are withheld. This describes visible system behaviour, not a measured client outcome.

02Management information

Management ReportingPrivate working-system evidence

A summary is useful only while the original record remains intact.

Management questionCan management trust the number?
01 / The condition
Weekly reports were spread across several formats. Missing, late, duplicate and corrected submissions were difficult to distinguish before a management meeting.
02 / The control
Every submission remains an independent record. The executive view is derived from those records, with reporting rules and duplicate counts kept visible.
03 / Management consequence
A director can move from the organisation-wide position to the department, period and original submission behind it.
What the retained evidence shows
  • Reporting status is classified consistently across departments and periods.
  • Multiple submissions are exposed rather than silently merged.
  • Each management figure retains a route back to its source report.
An anonymised executive compliance matrix showing reporting states across departments and periods.
Supporting capture / privacy-safe derivativeAnonymised supporting capture. Organisation, department, period and live reporting values have been permanently removed or abstracted.

Basis: Privately retained working-system captures and implementation record.

Limit: The organisation and live records are withheld. This describes visible system behaviour, not a measured client outcome.

03Materials and delivery planning

Materials ControlPrivate working-system evidence

A shortage seen after work stops is not management information.

Management questionWill the material be available when the work needs it?
01 / The condition
Build demand, installed quantities, physical holdings and material movements were held apart. A stock figure alone did not show whether future work was exposed.
02 / The control
The system translates the build plan into material demand, allocates holdings cumulatively and keeps an unknown count distinct from a confirmed zero.
03 / Management consequence
Stores and delivery teams can see when planned demand exceeds controlled stock and which material decision needs attention first.
What the retained evidence shows
  • Demand, installation and current holdings are compared in one control model.
  • The same stock cannot be allocated repeatedly across future periods.
  • Shortage and cost exposure can be traced to material, project and period.
An anonymised materials exposure view retaining the structure of risk indicators and trend charts.
Supporting capture / privacy-safe derivativeAnonymised supporting capture. Organisation, geography, dates, material names, quantities and financial values have been permanently removed or abstracted.

Basis: Privately retained working-system captures and implementation record.

Limit: The organisation and live records are withheld. This describes visible system behaviour, not a measured client outcome.

Why these records lead

The retained source pack contains five project records. Permit Control, Management Reporting and Materials Control lead because each demonstrates a different management decision. Job Lifecycle is retained as supporting evidence for audit and correction controls. SIREN remains separate portfolio evidence because its strongest contribution is disciplined uncertainty.

Supporting portfolio engineering

Working systems prove the method can be built.

Synapse and SIREN are kept separate from private operational case evidence. They show working architecture and control behaviour; their public presentation contains no live operational record and claims no client outcome.

Evidence trace
  1. 01
    Problem signal

Automated work was spread across several tools. To understand progress or a blockage, somebody had to reconstruct the story from separate screens.

  2. 02
    System response

Strataflow built one operations view for task routing, live worker status, human approval points, cost-aware model selection and blocked-work escalation.

03 / Observable result
  • Everyone responsible for the work can see the same live position.
  • A named person approves any action that could change infrastructure or another external system.
  • Blocked work, active sessions and system health are visible without piecing events together across several tools.

Synapse is Strataflow portfolio work. Screens use demonstration objectives and contain no client data. No client outcome is claimed.

A self-hosted operations centre that shows who is working, what is blocked and where a person needs to step in.

Evidence trace
  1. 01
    Problem signal

Fault investigation depended on several specialist sources. A failed or stale source could otherwise look like network evidence, while identifier and topology gaps remained hidden inside the conclusion.

  2. 02
    System response

Strataflow built a source-aware investigation platform that keeps evidence authority explicit, exposes join and freshness failures and blocks unsafe conclusions when required evidence is incomplete.

03 / Observable result
  • The service states when no incident conclusion is safe because required evidence is stale, partial, failed or pending.
  • Missing identifiers and conflicting source records become visible repair work rather than guesses hidden in a result.
  • Operators can inspect source health, network context, uncertainty and the next permitted action in one controlled view.

SIREN is private Strataflow portfolio work. Retained evidence includes verified captures from the working service; operational geography, source state and infrastructure detail are not published. No client outcome is claimed.

Private portfolio work — working operational prototype

Fibre network diagnostics and field operations

SIREN

A private operational prototype that brings network evidence, source health and uncertainty into one controlled investigation.

The publication boundary

Evidence is useful only when its limits are visible.

Private working-system evidence: Source-mapped evidence from a private operational system. The organisation and live operational records remain private.

Portfolio work: A real Strataflow build using demonstration or synthetic data. It proves working behaviour, not client deployment or commercial outcome.

Measured outcome: Published only when the baseline, period, method and permission can be stated. None is implied by the records above.

Start with one real problem

Which decision is your system failing to support?

Start with the approval, report, exception or handoff that people cannot explain with confidence. That is usually where the useful work begins.
